Liquid Science Lab!

Ivy-Isabella

We had a very special visitor this morning - Ivy-Isabella's baby sister, Aria.

Ivy-Isabella wrote a fabulous piece of poetry last night...

My Dad is a giant
He sleeps on the roof
I'm not scared of him
I love my giant Dad.

My brother is a cheetah
He runs around all day.
I cant run as fast as him
But I love him anyway.

My mum is a bird
She tidies up the nest
and loves her little children
and helps them do their best!

Finding out about Gravity!

Discovery Time on Fridays is a great time for Science. We always have a topic relating to the Letter of the Week that the other junior classes have.

This week it was 'G' so we had an investigation about Gravity!

Floating and Sinking

What floats and what sinks? We looked at a variety of objects, guessed if they floated, then tested our ideas out. Some surprises and some pleasing outcomes.

Have a go of this quiz....

My Carrot

My carrot is crunchy. It is humongous! I pulled it out of my garden. I am going to have a little bit at school and then my whole family will eat the rest for dinner. It tastes yummy.

Counting in Threes

We are learning how to count in threes. Here is a fun song we have been using to help us.

Spelling Lists

Here are the Spelling Lists that we are working through this year.

Lists 1- 7

You can use Spelling City to help learn them. Most spelling comes out of what we write at school. These words however are compiled as common words we use. (The higher the list, the trickier the spelling)

Learning to Swim

It's terrific to see the progress that is happening down at Tawa Pool.

More photos will be added to this album as we go.

Thanks so much to the fabulous parents who help us walk to and from the pool.

Observational Surveys - just like scientists!

We looked at what was on the ground around our school in 3 different places- the Bank, the Field, and the Quad. We used a small quadrat to do our observations - a great way to focus in on a small area.
Scientists use quadrats to know what is in a particular habitat.

By the way, we'd love to hear your comments about this. Please comment below instead on the photo peach slideshow so we can read it - thanks!

Stacking Colours

We had a go at stacking different colours in straws at Discovery Time today. There were 3 different colours- Blue (really salty!), Green (salty), and Red (just a little salty).
The more salt meant that the water was more dense (heavier) and less salt was lighter.

Class Treaty

Room 4 have been looking at a class treaty and mainly about what would help us to become better learners.
We decided on being respectful, responsible, and striving to do your best.
